What is On-Page SEO?

 

For those who are not familiar with On-Page SEO, it means customizing your webpage in a way that helps it to rank better on Search Engines. There are many online articles that tells you about On-Page SEO best practices but in this post I will try to explain all the On-Page SEO practices in the simplest way ever to help your website rank higher. So let’s get started with the first thing you see when you start to write a new post for your website.

 

Post Title

 

Simple, Catchy and Remember-able that the journalist’s way but marketers need more apart from this that suits the SEO. It need to have the target keyword plus it should not be too lengthy.

After you decide the target keyword, use it in your Post Title, try to use it.

 

Post URL

 

Not too long but short and direct, including the target keywords. You must have noticed the other URL types like one that includes the date and two that just gives it some number. Don’t ever do that Google is very conscious about the URL. Use short URL and include your keywords in it and that’s it.

Now H2 should also include the target keyword for at-least once. For example I have used my target keyword i.e. On-Page SEO Checklist in the above H2. This tells the bots more about the post and helps to rank higher.

 

Keyword Density

 

Now that you know your target keyword, you need to use it for around 1-2% of your post’s word count. This is really important and if you don’t use it, you wont rank high. Don’t do a lot keyword stuffing in your post because that is a black SEO practice and you can even be penalized by Google for that.

Yeah, sounds crazy but works. Use the words like, Best, Top, Awesome, etc. These words are a great way of ranking higher.

 

Search Engine Friendly Design

 

Use a responsive search engine friendly design for your website. More than 70% users are now on mobiles so use a design that works good on mobiles. After 2105 Google has also started penalizing for non-mobile friendly websites. So if you really wish to rank higher and get connected with more people, take care of your website design as well.

 

Social Sharing Buttons

 

Social Sharing button may not be for SEO but can be really important for Social Media Marketing. These Social Sharing Buttons make more chances of getting Backlinks and as you know Backlinks are very Google friendly.

PageSpeed

 

PageSpeed is also very important for ranking higher. 70% of your traffic will abandon your website if it’s load time is more than 4 secs. None likes slow websites, so check your speed now and try to make it fast.

 

Link Juice

 

Link Juice is the internal linking of your own posts in your new post. Internal linking is a great white hate SEO practice and can help a lot to rank higher. This doesn’t only let you rank higher but also make your visitors check other pages related to their interest.

Outbound Links

 

Outbound links are the relevant links that you include in your post to some other websites.

Post Long Content

 

Although this not a direct SEO strategy but it does work to rank higher. A simple way to rank higher in a short period, create posts of more than 2000 words.

 

Tip-This will also allow you to use the LSI keywords that is a SEO practice.

 

Meta Description

 

Meta Description is the little description you get to see below the title and URL whenever you search for something in the search engines.

 

Use your targeted keyword for at least once in your Meta Description.

Bounce Rate

 

Have checked the Bounce Rate of your website? Go to Google Analytics and check it. Bounce rate tells Google that how much is your website op posts liked by the visitors and if your visitors like it the n Google also likes it.

 

XML Sitemap

(This is not in the On-Page SEO Checklist.)

 

You must have noticed the importance of Sitemap when you registered for Google Analytics. It is important for your ranking because Google doesn’t only rank your website but also all the webpages in your website. XML sitemap tells Google about all the webpages that are present in your website.

 

Schema Markup

(This is not in the On-Page SEO Checklist.)

 

A latest update in the SEO practices. This is quite a hectic thing for me (I haven’t done it yet but will do it soon.). You can use Google’s Structured Data Markup Helper for doing this.
